Rock Pottery
Welcome to our website. My name is Darlene Fort. And let me introduce you to my husband Rock Fort. The name of our company came from the middle name of my husband, Herbert Rock Fort. We call him Rock. We live in Harlem, Georgia, which is close to Augusta, Georgia.
We are a team, that enjoys most of the same things. We looked for something special to do in our retirement years. We have seen several face jugs in shops and on the internet and enjoyed there whimsical nature that we started to collect them. We admired the characters on these face jugs so much that we wanted to try to make them ourselves.
We attended several classes and workshops learning how to make the pottery. We have read many books about pottery and we practiced for hours on the pottery wheel. We both enjoy working with our hands.
We use a stoneware clay with some porcelain clay. All of our pottery are fired to more than 2100 degrees so they are safe for use with food.
We started in 2005 working 6 or 7 days a week. Rock specializes in making face jugs. Rock has made and sold over 1800 face jugs. I like making face jugs also, but I also enjoy making animals.
Every face jug is special in its own way. There are no two face jugs exactly alike.
